Clare Henshaw is an established designer/maker of glass. Her work is represented in five major public collections including the V & A Museum, the Crafts Council, Fizwilliam Museum, Ulster Museum, Norwich Castle Museum and Broadfield House Glass Museum. She also has work in private collections in the USA, Switzerland and the UK After spending 9 years in the north of Sweden she was greatly affected by the 'extraordinary light phenomenon' 'and long Arctic winters' which she says shaped her visual sense. Her work is at once calm and contemplative; it is about light and colour. Her pieces are free blown, vessel forms which are outside and inside cased with colour. Using the 'graal' technique, she cuts through layers of colour to reveal the inside colours. Patterns are generated which become integral with the form as the piece is blown into its final shape. |
